TCU Golf In Second By One Stroke After Two Rounds
Feb. 14, 2003 WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - Third-ranked TCU is just one shot behind UCLA heading into Friday's third and final round of the Waikoloa Intercollegiate. TCU, in search of its third team title of the 2002-03 season, carded a nine-under 279 on Thursday and has a two-round total of 555 (-13). Seven teams are within eight strokes of the team lead. Junior Adam Meyer, who transferred to TCU following the fall semester and is playing in his first event as a Horned Frog, has been impressive in his debut. He fired a four-under 68 in round two and currently sits in sole possession of first place individually with a seven-under 135. Just two shots behind Meyer is TCU teammate Adam Rubinson. The senior is tied for second with a 137 (-5), following a two-under 70 on Thursday. He is in search of his third top-five finish of the year and his first career title. Junior Stephen Polanski made the biggest move of the day. He entered the round in a tie for 75th place, but shot a team-best score of 67 (-5) to leap into a share of 28th position with an even-par 142. Meanwhile, freshman Colby Beckstrom and sophomore David Schultz are tied for 70th place with scores of 146 (+4). Beckstrom shot a four-over 76, while Schultz posted a two-over 74 in the second round. All teams will play Friday's final round on the Kings' course after alternating between the Kings' and Beach courses the first two days.
