No. 3 Men's Golf Team Opens Play Wednesday

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's golf team, which finished the fall season rated fourth in the nation according to the Golfweek ratings system, has scooted up to No. 3, behind only Clemson and UNLV, in the rankings released on Feb. 9. The Horned Frogs will put their ranking to the test on Wednesday, when TCU opens the spring 2003 season at the Waikoloa Intercollegiate in Hawaii.

"The guys are excited to get back in action," said TCU head coach Bill Montigel. "We're looking forward to this spring season, and it all starts with this tournament in Hawaii."

TCU has officially announced its playing roster for the tournament. Included in the group are three players rated in the nation's top 75 according to Golfweek's individual ratings system. Senior Adam Rubinson (No. 21), sophomore David Schultz (No. 22) and freshman Colby Beckstrom (No. 52) headline the Frog contingent. Rounding out TCU's 4-5 slots are senior Stephen Polanski and junior Adam Meyer, who is playing in his first tournament with the Horned Frogs.

The 54-hole event will feature three days of 18-hole play, beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 12 and running through Friday, Feb. 14. In addition to No. 3 TCU, other teams playing in the event (with their Golfweek rankings), include: Air Force, Arizona State, No. 20 Arkansas, No. 23 Baylor, Fresno State, No. 21 Georgia Tech, Hawaii-Hilo, Hawaii, Houston, Kansas, Lamar, Mississippi, Nagoya University, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Oregon State, No. 18 Pepperdine, Rhode Island, Southern California, Stanford, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, No. 12 UCLA and No. 25 Washington.
