TCU Golfers Seventh After Round One of Waikoloa

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's golf team kicked off the 2005 spring season with the first round of the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate on Wednesday. The Horned Frogs, rated 10th in the nation, opened with a 15-under-par 273 and reside in seventh place among the 18-team field.
Third-rated Oklahoma State (264) leads the tournament by one stroke over Southern California. With a 270, Augusta State is in third place, two strokes ahead of four teams tied for fourth.
Sophomore Colby Beckstrom led a quartet of Horned Frogs who shot under-par scores, as he fired a six-under 66. He is tied for seventh individually heading into the second round. Senior J.J. Killeen, who finished one stroke behind Beckstrom, is tied for 12th place among the 110 participants.
Eight of the top 25 programs, including seven of the top 12 schools, are competing in the 18-team tournament. The 15-year-old intercollegiate is hosted by the University of Hawaii at Hilo, but this will be the first year the tournament is being played at the 6,687-yard, par-72 Waikoloa Village Course.
Tee times for tomorrow begin at 6:45 a.m. (Hawaii time). Final round play on Friday will start at 7 a.m. There is no live scoring of the 54-hole event. Scores will be available on www.gofrogs.com at the end of each day's play.
