TCU golfers open Hawaii tourney in 12th place
Feb. 8, 2006 WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - The TCU Horned Frogs find themselves in sole possession of 12th place among 21 teams through the first round of the UH Hilo Intercollegiate at the Waikoloa Village Course. Two of TCU's four true freshmen -- Jon McLean and Tom Miles -- are tied for 21st place individually after rounds of 69. The Frogs' other two freshmen, Jesse Speirs and Robby Ormand, share 62nd position with 1-over sums of 72. Junior Drew Stoltz is tied for 86th place after a 74 (+3). TCU, ranked 44th entering the spring season according to the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings system, is competing against five top-25 squads and nine top-50 squads. The Horned Frogs are just three strokes out of sixth place in a tightly packed field. Third-ranked Georgia Tech leads the tournament with a 16-under 268. No. 2 Oklahoma State is in second (272), followed by Southern California (274).
