TCU Golfers Begin Spring Season Wednesday in Hawaii
Feb. 8, 2005 FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's golf team begins the 2005 spring season on Wednesday when the Horned Frogs, ranked ninth in the nation according to the GCAA coaches poll and 10th in the Golfweek rankings, participate in the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate from Feb. 9-11 in Waikoloa, Hawaii. Four Horned Frogs who are rated among the nation's top 100 according to Golfweek's rankings are in the lineup for the opening tournament. Seniors David Schultz (59th) and J.J. Killeen (61st) along with juniors Colby Beckstrom (73rd) and Drew Pigg (91st) all had strong fall semesters to help the Frogs move up in the national rankings. The quartet will be joined by true freshman Franklin Corpening. The lineup was selected after an lengthy team qualifier that took place over two weeks. Eight of the top 25 programs, including seven of the top 12 schools, are competing in the 18-team tournament. The 15-year-old intercollegiate is hosted by the University of Hawaii at Hilo, but this will be the first year the tournament will be played at the 6,687-yard, par-72 Waikoloa Village Course. Among the ranked teams at the event are No. 3 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Texas, No. 8 Arizona State, No. 9 TCU, No. 10 UCLA, No. 11 Southern California, No. 12 Augusta State and No. 24 Oklahoma. Arkansas, Colorado, Fresno State, Hawaii-Hilo, Hawaii-Manoa, Kansas, Oregon, Rhode Island, UC-Davis and Washington are the other participants. Tee times for the tournament begin at 6:45 a.m. (Hawaii time) on the first two days and at 7 a.m. on the final day. Participants will be teeing off from both the first and 10th tee.
