TCU finishes 12th at final fall golf tournament

ROCKY FACE, Ga. - The TCU men's golf team finished the fall season with a 12th-place landing at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face, Ga. The Horned Frogs carded a 6-over 294 in Sunday's final round to complete the event with a 54-hole 891 (+27). No. 17 Georgia State (856) won the tournament by one stroke over fifth-ranked Florida (857). The Frogs played well on the final two days of the tournament, netting a plus-8 total over the last 36 holes. The tournament featured 12 teams who are rated among the top 25 in the nation according to the GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches' Poll, including four of college golf's top five squads. TCU topped three of the nationally-rated squads. First-year player Robby Ormand (Austin, Texas) owned the top result for TCU with the best placing of his young career. Ormand fired a 1-under 71 in the last round to finish with a three-round 220 (+4). His final round included four birdies and an eagle. He missed out on his first collegiate top-20 finish by just one stroke, as he wound up with a share of 22nd place. Jon McLean, the second of three true freshmen competing for TCU, tied for 34th place with a 5-over 221. He registered a 2-over 74 on Sunday in a round that included a triple bogey. Drew Laning posted a final-round 75 (+3) to earn a tie for 50th (224). The senior finished the fall with a team-best 73.20 scoring average over five events. TCU sophomore Franklin Corpening moved up 10 positions on Sunday after posting a 74. He had a three-round sum of 229 (+13) after playing the final 36 holes at plus-3. Freshman Jesse Speirs held steady in 79th place following a final-round 78. He played solid golf on 17 holes, but was foiled by a 10 on the par-5 second, his 11th hole of the day.
