Horned Frogs finish first overall in day one action at MacDonald Cup

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The TCU men's golf team sits in first place following day one competition at the MacDonald Cup. The Horned Frogs carded a 36-hole team score of 285 at the Course at Yale (par-71, 6,749 yards) on Saturday. TCU is only one stroke ahead of host school Yale (286) entering the tournament's final day on Sunday. "I thought all five guys were pretty solid today," said TCU Head Coach Bill Montigel. "I think tomorrow is a great opportunity for us to win a golf tournament if we continue to play well." Travis Woolf, a sophomore from Fort Worth, led TCU Saturday by carding scores of 36 and 34 to tie for second place with a total of 70. Woolf trails tournament leader Taylor Hakes of Yale (32/37) by one stroke entering the final day. Senior Franklin Corpening (35/36) followed by shooting an even par score of 71 to tie for fifth-place following Saturday's action. Junior's Robby Ormand (38/34) and James Sacheck (36/36) each posted 1-over scores of 72 to tie for 10th entering Sunday's final round. Finally, freshman Tom Hoge (37-37) rounded out the Horned Frog scoring by carding a total of 74. Hoge, who is competing in his first collegiate event, it tied for 19th-place entering Sunday's competition. Overall, TCU placed all five of its golfers in the top-20 during the opening round of the MacDonald Cup.
The Horned Frogs will resume action in Connecticut tomorrow morning.
