Doeden Takes Seventh as Frogs Finish Tied For 11th
Feb. 15, 2002
WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - Andy Doeden pushed his top-20 placement streak to six tournaments with a seventh-place finish at the Waikoloa Intercollegiate on Friday. Doeden was the top finisher for the eighth-ranked Horned Frogs, who grabbed a share of 11th in the 24-team field. TCU, who entered the third and final round in a tie for eighth, shot a final-day 307 (+19) to fall into a three-way tie for 11th. Doeden, a senior, fired an even-par 72 on the final 18 holes and finished the tournament with a 215 (one-under). He had more par-or-better rounds (three) in the tourney than the rest of his team (two). Adam Rubinson tied for 26th-place individually with a score of 220 (four-over par). He began the final round in 11th place, but shot a five-over 77 in round three. J.J. Killeen's final-round 79 dropped him from 30th place into a tie for 50th. Steve Shuert (T-83rd, 229) and Bret Guetz (T-99th, 232) also shot 79s on the final day. It was the first time in six events this year that the Frogs placed lower than sixth in a tournament and just the second time that TCU was not among the top three.
