Feb. 13, 2004
WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - The TCU Horned Frogs recorded their best round of the three-day tournament with a seven-under 281 to earn a ninth-place finish at the spring-opening Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate in Hawaii. No. 5 Georgia Tech won the team title with an 841, while No. 6 TCU had a three-round sum of 860. Junior J.J. Killeen secured his second career top-10 finish at the tournament, tying for eight place with a five-under-par 210. Killeen netted a one-under 71 in the final round for his third straight better-than-par round at the tournament. It was the second-best finish of his career, behind only a sixth-place landing at the 2002 Prestige at PGA West. David Schultz, who had a two-under 70 on Friday, was the second of four Frogs to break par in the final round. For the tournament, the junior from Fargo, N.D. registered a minus-two 214, good for a share of 24th place. TCU's final three participants all tied for 63rd place among the 105-player event with 54-hole scores of 221 (+5). Senior Adam Meyer, the defending tournament champion, had TCU's best round of the day with a three-under 69. Sophomore Colby Beckstrom also netted an under-par score with a 71, while senior Stephen Polanski, playing in his first tournament of the season, had his second straight 75. It was the first time this year that Beckstrom failed to place in the top 20. TCU is next in action Mar. 1-2 at the Cleveland Golf Classic in Westlake Village, Calif. -www.gofrogs.com-
