McCoy Adds To All-America Honors
Dec. 9, 2011
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Yahoo! Sports has named TCU's Greg McCoy a first-team All-American at kickoff returner.
McCoy was also named a first-team All-American earlier this week by CBSSports.com.
A graduate student from Dallas, McCoy ranks fourth nationally with his average of 31.6 yards per return. He has two touchdowns on the season, going 94 yards versus Louisiana-Monroe and 99 against UNLV. He set a TCU single-game record with 229 kickoff return yards at Baylor.
McCoy is the first Horned Frog since Cory Rodgers in 2005 to return two kickoffs for scores in the same season. McCoy's 99- and 94-yard touchdowns are the second- and third-longest in 11 seasons under Gary Patterson as head coach, surpassed only by Rodgers' 100-yard return at BYU in 2005.
McCoy's three career kickoff returns for touchdowns are tied with LaTarence Dunbar (1999-02) for first all-time at TCU. McCoy is one of just four Horned Frogs to have three total kick returns for a score in a career.
McCoy is also the Mountain West's Special Teams Player of the Year. With former Horned Frog and current New York Jet Jeremy Kerley receiving the honor the previous two campaigns, TCU closed its MW era with the league's Special Teams Player of the Year in three straight seasons.
TCU had the first-team All-MW return specialist all seven seasons it was in the league (Rodgers, 2005; Brian Bonner, 2006-07; Kerley, 2008-10; McCoy, 2011).
