Carder And McCoy Highlight TCU's All-Mountain West Selections
Dec. 6, 2011
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Eighteen TCU football players have received All-Mountain West recognition with linebacker Tank Carder and kick returner Greg McCoy being named the league's Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Year.
Carder is the MW Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season. Combined with two-time consensus first-team All-American Jerry Hughes in 2008 and 2009, TCU has had the MW's Defensive Player of the Year each of the last four seasons.
Last year's Rose Bowl Defensive Most Valuable Player, Carder has 66 tackles with 4 1/2 for loss. He's returned both his interceptions for touchdowns. His three career picks for scores place first all-time at TCU.
McCoy ranks fourth nationally with his 31.6 kickoff return average. He has two touchdowns on the season, going 94 yards versus Louisiana-Monroe and 99 against UNLV. He set a TCU single-game record with 229 kickoff return yards at Baylor.
McCoy gives TCU the first-team All-MW return specialist all seven years it was in the league. Previous Horned Frog recipients were Cory Rodgers (2005), Brian Bonner (2006-07) and Jeremy Kerley (2008-10).
McCoy was also an honorable-mention All-MW pick at cornerback.
Honorable-mention All-MW recipients from TCU, in addition to McCoy at cornerback, are tight end Logan Brock, safety Johnny Fobbs, wide receiver Antoine Hicks, tailback Waymon James, tailback Matthew Tucker, cornerback Jason Verrett, tailback Ed Wesley and defensive tackle D.J. Yendrey.
