Nov. 22, 2010
BALTIMORE, Md. -- TCU quarterback Andy Dalton has been named one of five finalists for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, recognizing the nation's top senior quarterback.
The other finalists are Colin Kaepernick (Nevada), Christian Ponder (Florida State), Ricky Stanzi (Iowa) and Scott Tolzien (Wisconsin). The 2010 winner will be presented with the Golden Arm Award on Friday, Dec. 10, at the Tremont Grand Meeting & Banquet Facility in Baltimore.
Dalton, the nation's leader in wins by an active quarterback with 40, ranks fifth nationally with a 163.94 pass efficiency rating. It's the second straight year he's been in the top 10.
Also a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award and Davey O'Brien Award as well as one of 15 "Players to Watch" for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, Dalton has a career-best 66.3 completion percentage with 23 touchdowns and just six interceptions. This season has seen him produce three of the top seven single-game completion percentages in TCU history. He's also fourth on TCU with 415 yards rushing on a 5.5 per carry average.
A senior from Katy, Texas, Dalton has led TCU to an 11-0 record and No. 3 ranking in the BCS. It's the third consecutive year he has helped guide the Horned Frogs into the top 10.
Dalton directs a TCU offense that ranks sixth in scoring (41.3 points) and first downs per game (25.9). The Frogs are ninth in rushing (258.3 yards) and total offense (490.5 yards).
Dalton completed 21-of-23 passes for 267 yards and two touchdowns in a 45-10 win over Baylor. He was 21-of-26 for a career-high 355 yards and three scores in a 47-7 victory at Utah. He passed for four touchdowns in wins over BYU and San Diego State.
Dalton has thrown a touchdown pass in a Mountain West Conference record 19 consecutive games and ranks third nationally among active quarterbacks (min. 800 attempts) in lowest career interception percentage at 2.34.
In addition to owning every major TCU passing record, Dalton needs 40 yards to become the MWC's career leader in total offense. He's at 11,530 yards. He is 61 yards shy of reaching 10,000 career yards passing.
