Nov. 21, 2011
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- TCU linebacker Tank Carder and placekicker Ross Evans have been named the Mountain West Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for their performance in Saturday's 34-10 win over Colorado State.
Carder tied a season-high with his team-best nine tackles, including one for loss, while returning an interception 69 yards for a touchdown. It was TCU's longest return of a pick for a score since Quincy Butler went 99 yards against Southern Miss in 2004.
A senior from Sweeny, Texas, Carder tops TCU this season with 62 tackles and two interceptions. Both of his picks have been returned for scores.
Carder, a first-team All-American in 2010 and the Rose Bowl's Defensive Most Valuable Player, is now TCU's all-time leader with three interception returns for touchdowns. He has four career picks. The Horned Frogs' previous mark of two career interception returns for touchdowns was shared by Charlie Casper (1932-34), Billy Fondren (1967-69) and Tony Rand (1989-92).
Evans accounted for TCU's first quarter scoring against Colorado State with field goals of 21 and 46 yards. He moved into second place on the Mountain West's career field goals made list with 55, trailing only Utah's Louie Sakoda (57, 2005-08). Evans places third all-time at TCU for field goals made.
Evans, a senior from Burnet, Texas, has made his last 11 field-goal attempts and is 13-of-16 on the season.
