Nov. 16, 2009
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- TCU linebacker Tank Carder has been named the Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Saturday's 55-28 win over Utah. Carder had a team best and career-high nine tackles, including one for loss. He also had his first career interception, a second-quarter pick he returned 15 yards for a touchdown. It gave the No. 4 Horned Frogs (10-0) a 35-7 lead just 3:20 into the second quarter. A sophomore from Sweeny, Texas, Carded added a pass breakup and quarterback hurry against the Utes. His nine PBUs on the season top TCU and rank second in the Mountain West Conference. Carder had TCU's first interception return for a touchdown since Jerry Hughes went 24 yards for a score last year at SMU. Carder had the first interception return for a touchdown by a TCU linebacker since Robert Henson against SMU in 2007. A former world champion in BMX racing, Carder is second on the Horned Frogs with 65 tackles, including five for loss with two sacks. TCU held Utah to just four first downs in the opening two quarters to build a 38-14 halftime lead.
