DALLAS -- Former TCU All-American running back Jim Swink has been named the recipient of the 2005 PricewaterhouseCoopers Doak Walker Legends Award. The award is presented by the Guaranty Bank SMU Athletic Forum, and the recipient is chosen by the Forum's Board of Directors.

Swink, will receive his trophy at the Doak Walker Award Presentation Banquet on Monday, Feb. 27, at The Wyndham Anatole Hotel in Dallas. He joins a prestigious list of previous honorees including John David Crow (2004), Doc Blanchard and Glenn Davis (2003), Earl Campbell (2002), Tony Dorsett (2001), Pete Dawkins (2000), Archie Griffin (1999) and Gale Sayers (1998).

Swink was a consensus All-American in 1955 when he led the nation in scoring (125 points), ranked second in rushing yards and was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy. The two-time Academic All-American led TCU to consecutive Cotton Bowl appearances in 1956 and 1957, including a victory over Jim Brown and Syracuse in 1956. After college, Swink chose medical school over an NFL career. He served in the U.S. Army and received numerous medals for his service in Vietnam. The "Rusk Rambler" was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 1977 and into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1980. Presently, Swink is an orthopedic surgeon with a practice in Fort Worth, Texas.

The PricewaterhouseCoopers Doak Walker Legends Award was created by the Athletic Forum to honor former running backs who excelled at the collegiate level and also distinguished themselves as leaders in their communities.

"Jim Swink made extraordinary contributions to his team while at TCU, but his most remarkable gifts have been given through his military service and his involvement with the Fort Worth community," said Maribess Miller, Dallas office Managing Partner for PricewaterhouseCoopers.

PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP is in its seventh year as the presenting sponsor of the Doak Walker Legends Award. The firm (www.pwcglobal.com) provides industry-focused assurance, tax and advisory services for public and private clients. Doak Walker epitomized leadership, sportsmanship and academic and athletic achievement during his storied career at SMU. Walker was a three-time All-American who won the Heisman Trophy as a junior in 1948, was a first round draft pick of the Detroit Lions, led the team to NFL championships in 1952 and 1953, and was chosen All-Pro four times. Walker is a member of both the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame.
