ABOUT THE GAME
*No. 17 TCU opens the 2012 season when it hosts Grambling State in the first game at Amon G. Carter Stadium after its $164 million rebuild. Overall, it's the 82nd season of TCU playing in one form or another of Amon G. Carter Stadium.
*The Horned Frogs, who have the nation's longest current winning streak at eight in a row, will take the field for the first time as a member of the Big 12. TCU also has the nation's longest winning streak for conference games at 24.
*With a victory,
Gary Patterson would become TCU's all-time winningest coach. His 109 wins are tied with Dutch Meyer (1934-52) for the top spot in Frog history. Meyer was 109-79-13 from 1934-52, including national championships in 1935 and 1938.
*Patterson's .784 winning percentage (109-30) is fourth nationally among active coaches.
*TCU was one of just four schools to have a bye the opening weekend (Sept. 1) of the season. The last time the Frogs had an open date the first week was 2009, when they went 12-0 en route to the Fiesta Bowl.
*TCU and Grambling State are meeting for the first time on the gridrion.
*Grambling State coach Doug Williams, also a former standout for the Tigers, was the Super Bowl XXII Most Valuable Player as he quarterbacked the Washington Redskins to a 42-10 victory over the Denver Broncos in 1988.
SEASON OPENERS
*TCU is opening a season at home for the first time since a 27-0 win over Baylor in 2007, a game that saw redshirt freshman quarterback Andy Dalton make his Horned Frog debut.
*Saturday marks just the third time in Gary Patterson's 12 seasons as head coach that TCU has opened its season in Amon G. Carter Stadium. The Frogs have been on the road or at a neutral site for their season opener nine times in the previous 11 years.
*The Frogs' eight-game winning streak in season openers was snapped in a 50-48 loss at Baylor last season. The eight straight wins had been the second-longest streak in TCU history for season-opening victories, trailing only the 17 in a row from 1920-36.
*TCU is 8-3 in season debuts under Gary Patterson and 68-38-9 overall in openers.
HOME OPENERS
*TCU has won 10 straight home openers under head coach Gary Patterson. In seven of those victories, the Frogs allowed 17 points or less.
*TCU is 10-1 overall in home openers under Patterson.
DEFENDING THEIR HOME
*TCU has won 26 of its last 27 home games and is 56-7 under Gary Patterson at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
FAMILY TIES
*TCU freshman defensive end James McFarland's mother, Joan, played basketball at Grambling State.
TCU QUICK HITS
*TCU is the only school in the nation to win at least 11 games in six of the last seven seasons.
*TCU is one of just four programs (Alabama, Boise State, Oregon) to finish in the top 15 of both the Associated Press and USA Today polls over the last four campaigns.
*TCU is one of just three schools (Florida, Utah) to win at least six bowl games in the last seven seasons.
*Last year's 36-35 victory at Boise State was TCU's third straight win over a top-five ranked opponent and improved the Frogs' record to 4-1 in their last five games against top-five teams. In the 2010 campaign, TCU won 47-7 at No. 5 Utah while defeating No. 5 Wisconsin 21-19 in the Rose Bowl.
