2013 Preview: Tight Ends Look to Make Impact
Aug. 9, 2013
FORT WORTH, Texas -- GoFrogs.com continues its preview of the 2013 TCU football team with a look at the tight ends.
The tight end position will be bolstered by the return of Stephen Bryant (6-5, 240, Jr.), last year's projected starter who suffered a season-ending injury in the opening scrimmage of fall camp.
Bryant saw action in 12 games in the 2011 campaign. At New Deal (Texas) High School, he was an all-state defensive back and the district most valuable player at quarterback.
Griffin Gilbert (6-5, 220, So.), who started five games as a true freshman last season, opened fall camp behind Bryant on the depth chart. Gilbert's two receptions in 2012 both came against Kansas State.
Gilbert was rated by Rivals.com as the No. 1 tight end in Texas and No. 10 in the nation coming out of Lake Travis High School in Austin.
Jones, from Matthews, N.C., redshirted last season. His father, Gregg Jones, was a three-year TCU football letterman (1985-87).
BY THE NUMBERS:
1 - Touchdown catches by tight ends in double overtime of TCU wins last season (Corey Fuller at West Virginia)
