McCoy Receives Notice From Sporting News
July 17, 2011
FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU cornerback Greg McCoy has been tabbed by Sporting News as a potential breakout player for the 2011 season.
McCoy is one of six returning starters on a TCU defense that has led the nation in total defense each of the last three seasons.
McCoy started all 13 games last year, totaling a career-high 30 tackles. He placed second on the Horned Frogs with two interceptions and six pass breakups. The picks came in back-to-back wins over Utah and San Diego State.
McCoy recorded a season-best five stops and a key pass breakup in the 21-19 Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin.
A senior from Dallas, McCoy averaged a team-best 33.4 yards on kickoff returns. He set a TCU single-season record with a 35.9 average, including an 81-yard touchdown at Wyoming, in 2009.
McCoy graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, the same high school that produced Heisman Trophy winners Davey O'Brien (TCU, 1938) and Tim Brown (Notre Dame, 1987).
