BALTIMORE -- TCU safety
Stephen Hodge, linebacker
Jason Phillips and center
Blake Schlueter have been named 2008 preseason All-Americans by NationalChamps.net.
Hodge's eight sacks last season led the nation for defensive backs. He was
an All-Mountain West Conference selection while also being named to the
All-Texas College Team by Dave Campbell's Texas Football. A senior from
Tatum, Texas, Hodge placed second on the Frogs in sacks, tackles for a loss
(10.5) and pass break-ups (seven).
Phillips, a three-time All-MWC pick, was named the State's Best Linebacker
in 2007 by Dave Campbell's Texas Football. The senior from Waller, Texas,
has started all 38 games the last three seasons. His 231 career tackles,
including a team-best 87 last year, lead all active Frogs.
A senior from Ganado, Texas, Schlueter is a two-time All-MWC performer and
the anchor of the Frogs' offensive line. He appeared on the 2007 Rimington
Trophy Watch List, honoring the nation's top center. Schlueter was a
first-team choice on Dave Campbell's Texas Football All-Texas College Team.
The Frogs return eight offensive starters and six on defense. TCU reports
Aug. 3 for the start of preseason camp. The season opener is Aug. 30 at New
Mexico.
