TCU-BYU Postgame Notes
Oct. 24, 2009
No. 7 TCU at No. 16 BYU
*TCU has won nine in a row for the nation's fourth-longest winning streak (Florida 17, Texas 12, Iowa 11). It's the Horned Frogs' first nine-game winning streak since they won their final eight games in 2006 and the season opener in 2007.
*TCU is one of only seven undefeated teams remaining in the nation.
*TCU improved to 58-1 under head coach Gary Patterson when allowing 17 points or less.
*TCU opened with a lead of at least 10-0 for the 14th time in its last 20 games.
*The Horned Frogs were +2 in turnover margin and are now 41-1 since 2005 when ahead (30-1) or even (11-0) in that category.
*The Horned Frogs improved to 4-0 on the road this season and 30-13 when playing away from home since 2003.
*Andy Dalton moved into sole possession of second place on TCU's all-time list for wins by a starting quarterback. He is now 24-6, trailing only Sam Baugh (29-7-2, 1934-36).
*A 19-yard first-quarter completion from Dalton to Jimmy Young was the 500th career completion for Dalton and the 100th career reception for Young.
*Dalton's 88 first-quarter passing yards pushed him over 6,000 in his career. He's now at 6,165 yards to place second all-time at TCU, behind only Max Knake (7,370, 1992-95).
*Dalton had three touchdown passes for the first time since last year's 34-10 win over UNLV (Nov. 17). He has thrown for at least two scores four times in the last five games.
*In his last 13 games dating back to last season, Dalton has 22 touchdown passes and just six interceptions.
*Dalton's 75-yard third-quarter touchdown pass to Antoine Hicks was TCU's longest play from scrimmage this season and the longest since Marcus Jackson's 79-yard touchdown run last year at SMU (Sept. 20). It was also TCU's longest pass play since Jeff Ballard and Donald Massey hooked up for a 77-yard strike on Oct. 28, 2006 in a 26-3 win over Wyoming.
*Hicks now has six touchdowns (three rushing, three receiving) this season on just 16 touches.
*Young's 12-yard second-quarter touchdown catch moved him past Richard Woodley (1,620, 1990-93) into ninth place on TCU's all-time list receiving yards list. He now has 1,637 career yards. Next on the list is John Washington in eighth place with 1,685 (1993-96).
*Jerry Hughes had a sack and forced fumble as part of four tackles. He now has nine sacks on the season. Over the last two years against BYU, he's had five sacks and three forced fumbles.
*Joseph Turner's 4-yard first-quarter scoring run was his team-high eighth touchdown of the season. His 26 career rushing touchdowns rank fifth on TCU's all-time list.
*Bart Johnson had a first-quarter reception to extend his team-best streak to 16 games in a row with at least one catch.
*The 44-yard pass from Jeremy Kerley to Johnson marked Kerley's first completion since the 2007 campaign.
*Tejay Johnson led TCU with a career-high 14 tackles. It was the most stops in a game by a Horned Frog since Marvin White had 14 tackles in the 2006 season-opening 17-7 win at Baylor. Johnson had his first career double-figure tackle effort, breaking his previous career high of seven stops.
*Colin Jones had nine tackles for his second-straight game with a career high.
*Wayne Daniels' first-quarter sack gave him 3 1/2 on the season.
*Cory Grant recorded his first two solo sacks of the 2009 campaign.
*Ed Wesley's 28-yard first-quarter touchdown reception marked his second-straight game with a scoring catch.
*Daryl Washington's third-quarter interception was his second pick of the season and third of his career.
*Ross Evans' 28-yard third-quarter field goal made him 7-of-8 on the season and 23-of-28 in his two-year career.
*Matthew Tucker's 7-yard fourth-quarter touchdown run was his third rushing score of the season.
*Offensive guard Blaize Foltz made his first career start at right guard.
*Alex Ibiloye returned to the starting lineup for the first time since Oct. 3 against SMU.
