HOUSTON (AP) - Reserve tailback Corey Connally ran for 199 yards and a touchdown to lead TCU to a 34-17 victory over Houston on Saturday night in the Conference USA opener for both teams.

TCU (3-2) took advantage of Houston's four fumbles to score a touchdown and two field goals.

Connally, a sophomore listed as the third-team tailback on TCU's depth chart, got his first start with rushing leader Ricky Madison (ankle) and backup Andrew Hayes-Stoker (knee) sidelined.

Connally had only seven rushes for a total of 8 yards in the Frogs' first four games. But he had 13 carries for 150 yards by the half Saturday, helping TCU to a 23-10 halftime lead.

TCU took the opening drive and went 73 yards in 10 plays, including a 31-yard run by Connally. Casey Printers faked a handoff to Connally and bootlegged right for the 1-yard touchdown run.

Moments later, on Houston's second play after the kickoff, safety Kenneth Hillaird recovered a fumble by Jeffrey Reynolds at the Cougars 32, setting up Nick Browne's 46-yard field goal.

Reynolds ran 76 yards for a touchdown, the longest of his career and the longest by a Cougars player this season.

Hanik Milligan intercepted Printers' pass at the Houston 2 early in the second quarter, but on the first play from scrimmage, Reynolds fumbled in the end zone and Joe Hill recovered for a TCU touchdown and a 16-7 lead.

Connally's 80-yard TD run padded the lead to 23-7.

Houston (0-3) added a 30-yard field goal by Jeff Patterson to close the margin to 23-10 with 2:32 to play before the half.

Late in the third quarter, Kelly Robertson drove the Cougars 69 yards in six plays. He threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Chris Robertson to make it 23-17 with 1:48 left in the third.

Kelly Robertson was 20-of-39 for 272 yards and a touchdown.

Early in the fourth quarter, TCU drove 80 yards in 13 plays on a drive capped by a 3-yard run by LaTarence Dunbar. Printers threw to B.J. Roberts for the 2-point conversion.

On the first play of the next series, Grover Thompson and Marvin Godbolt recovered a Houston fumble at the Cougars 26, setting up Browne's 19-yard field goal.
