Talented defensive end who deserves all-America consideration in his senior campaign... is the total package with size, speed and strength... regarded as one of the squad's best pass rushers but can also stop the run... plays and practices extremely hard with an aggressive style... has made 13 career starts... is a cousin of two former TCU standouts and current NFL players, Aaron (Buffalo) and Matt (Cincinnati) Schobel.

2002:Was a key returnee on the defensive line after missing virtually the entire 2001 season with a knee injury... earned all-Conference USA first-team honors by the league and by Collegefootball-news.com... started all 12 games... ranked third on the squad with 57 tackles, 19 of which came behind the line of scrimmage... ranked among the league's top 10 in sacks with 7.5... also credited with five quarterback hurries... recovered fumbles at Northwestern and versus SMU... moved to the left defensive end from the right side prior to the Houston game as he did not feel he was getting adequate "push" off the right leg... responded with a pair of sacks and three tackles for loss among his six stops in that contest.

2001: Starting rush end when the 2001 season began... suffered a torn ACL in his right knee in the first half of the season-opener at Nebraska... underwent season-ending surgery on September 10.

2000: Served as the top backup to Chad McCarty... saw considerable action in the rotation... had 26 tackles, including five for losses... had four sacks and six quarterback pressures... recorded a season-high four tackles against UTEP.

1999: Redshirted as a true freshman.

High School: A member of the Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Houston Chronicle State Top 100... named to SuperPrep's Texas Top 120... a second team defensive lineman on Dave Campbell's 1998 Texas Football Super Team... first team all-state at defensive end... led team in tackles and catches as both a junior and senior... District 20-3A Defensive MVP and first-team punter... totaled 35 tackles with seven sacks... had seven touchdowns in 21 catches (368 yards) at tight end... in junior season, earned first team All-District 20-3A honors as a defensive end and punter... earned similar honors for the Tri-County area... also earned all-district honors in basketball and track... a state finalist in the discus... coached by Tom Bludau... chose TCU over Texas A&M, Purdue, Notre Dame, North Carolina State, Texas Tech and Baylor.

Personal: Robert Edward Schobel is the son of former TCU footballer Bob and Mary Jane Schobel... born March 24, 1981... a secondary education major... cousin of former TCU standouts Aaron (second round pick by Buffalo in 2001) and Matt (third round pick by Cincinnati in 2002) Schobel.
