Chad McCarty begins his second season on the coaching staff, his first as a graduate assistant for the defense. Last year, McCarty worked as a graduate assistant in the football video department.
This is McCarty's first stint on a coaching staff. A former TCU defensive end, McCarty has worked as a fourth grade teacher at L. Clifford Davis Elementary School in the Fort Worth ISD since graduating from TCU.
McCarty was a four-year (1998-2001) TCU letterwinner. He was a two-year starter, a pre-season all-conference selection as a senior and served as team captain. He helped turn a program that won just one game in his true freshman season to one that went to four consecutive bowl games.
Born September 20, 1979, McCarty and his wife, Candace, were high school sweethearts at Fort Worth's Eastern Hills High School. Chad earned his bachelor's degree in 2001 and his master's degree in 2002, both in the education field.
McCarty's brother, Chance, was an all-conference defensive end at TCU, lettering from 1993-1997.
