Looking For One Away From Home
A victory for TCU on Saturday would be the first by an Oklahoma non-conference opponent since a 72-57 loss to Cincinnati on Dec. 22, 1999.
OU's current non-conference home winning streak (48) is the longest in the nation. Duke (46) is next on the list.
The Sooners have won 33 of their last 35 and 81 of their past 87 games at Lloyd Noble Center.
TCU is 0-1 on the road this year after a 74-53 loss in Moraga, Calif., to St. Mary's on Nov. 21.
The Horned Frogs' last road victory came in the second round of the 2005 NIT, a 78-76 overtime win at Western Michigan.
Against the Big 12
The TCU Horned Frogs own a 275-386 (.416) record all time against schools that currently comprise the Big 12 Conference.
The majority of those games have been against the four former Southwest Conference schools: Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Baylor.
TCU has at least one win against every school in the league except for Kansas (0-4 all time).
The Horned Frogs are 2-8 against Big 12 competition under Neil Dougherty.
The last win over a Big 12 foe came against Texas Tech on Nov. 23, 2004, an 83-68 decision in Fort Worth.
Local Flavor
Of the Horned Frogs' 13 nonconference games, TCU has six against programs in the state of Texas. In addition, five more are versus schools from bordering states (Louisiana-3, Oklahoma-1 and Arkansas-1).
The Horned Frogs Against the Sooners
TCU is 1-7 all time against Oklahoma in a series that dates back to 1925.
The two schools have not met since Dec. 28, 1991, a 78-73 Sooner win in Oklahoma City.
TCU's lone win in the series was a 95-82 decision in Oklahoma City on Dec. 27, 1986.
Coach K Proteges
TCU's Neil Dougherty and Oklahoma's Jeff Capel are among six of legendary Coach Mike Krzyzewski's former players or assistants who are head coaches at the Division I level.
Dougherty played for Krzyzewski at Army, while Capel was a Duke Blue Devil under Coack K.
The other members of Coach K's coaching tree are Tommy Amaker (Michigan), Robert Brickey (Shaw), Mike Brey (Notre Dame) and Mike Dement (UNC Greensboro).
Dougherty and Capel have met as head coaches once before, as Capel's Virginia Commonwealth team defeated TCU 91-78 on Dec. 21, 2002 in Richmond, Va.
A Degree of Separation
TCU's Neil Dougherty earned his master's degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1987 while serving as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Cameron University, which is located in Lawton, Okla.
In addition, Dougherty has strong familiarity with OU after serving as an assistant coach at the University of Kansas. He spent seven years on the KU staff, facing the Sooners each year as part of the Big 8 and Big 12 Conferences.
Benchmarks
The TCU bench has oustcored opposing benches by an amazing 211-94 count through six games, which figures to 20 points per game (35-15).
In addition, the Horned Frog reserves have outscored the TCU starters 211-194.
The Frogs' bench outscored the entire Grambling team 48-46 and outscored their subs 48-4.
The only team's bench to outscore TCU's was St. Mary's (36-28).
The Frog bench also holds an impressive 87-57 edge in rebounds.
Scoring By Committee
TCU has already had seven different players reach double figures in scoring this season.
No player has done so more than four times, while each has done so at least twice.
TCU's leading scorer, Ryan Wall, ranks 20th in the MWC in scoring at 11.5, but six other Frogs average at least 6.8 points per game.
Out of the Blocks
TCU has blocked 26 shots this year (4.3 bpg), while having just 20 shots rejected.
Last year through six games, opponents dominated that category, tallying 34 blocks compared to just 11 for TCU.
In 31 games last year, TCU had more blocks than its opponents just four times. This year, the Frogs already have done so on four occasions.
TCU (2.2 bpg) had at least five blocks in a game just twice last year, but have blocked at least five shots in a game three times already this year.
We Walk the Line
TCU was awarded just eight free throws against Texas Tech, while the visiting Red Raiders had 19 tries. TCU's previous low for attempts was 16 against St. Mary's.
The Horned Frogs are averaging 36.5 free throw attempts per game in their four wins and 12.0 in their two losses.
