Dowd and Ray Named Athletes of the Week

FORT WORTH - Jamie Dowd of the TCU rifle and Jarvis Ray of Horned Frogs men’s basketball have been named athletes of the week for their career-best performances this past week.
Dowd’s performance last Saturday helped gain the Frogs another win on the season, keeping a perfect 6-0, extending their winning streak to 19 matches. The Frogs handed a previously undefeated Kentucky squad a 4,718-4,693 defeat. She gained 589 points in air rifle competition and set a personal best of 571 in the smallbore. The junior from Pueblo, Colo. achieved another career high aggregate score of 1160, for a match average of 1149.33 through six appearances.
Ray led TCU to a 2-1 record with a team-high scoring average of 12.7 points per game, scoring in double figures all three games, leading TCU in points for first time. He made 5-of-7 field-goal attempts while scoring 11 points during a Monday win over Centenary. Further, adding a career-high 14 points during a Thursday loss to SMU, making 6-of-9 field-goal attempts. Finally, Ray marked 13 points during Sunday’s grind out over Prairie View A&M. The junior from New Orleans shot 50.0 percent overall (14-of-28) for the week, 40.0 percent (2-of-5) from downtown and gave the Frogs 8-of-10 from the charity line.
