FORT WORTH, Texas -- John Denton will serve as the color analyst for TCU men's basketball radio broadcasts during the 2005-06 season, TCU Director of Broadcasting Brian Estridge announced Tuesday. Denton has been a member of the TCU/ESPN Regional Sports Network football crew -- which is a finalist for a Katie Award -- for 17 years and is currently the color analyst.

"John is a terrific broadcaster and has been recognized for his work with football," Estridge said. "I'm very excited he will be joining our men's basketball crew this season. John brings versatility to our staff and will work tirelessly to bring TCU fans closer to the game."

Denton, who came to TCU as a football walk-on, lettered four years as a kicker and punter for the Horned Frogs from 1981 to 1984. He has drawn assignments with Westwood One and CBS Radio Sports for their coverage of the NCAA Basketball Tournament, NFL Monday Night Football, NFL Playoffs and Major League Baseball's Game of the Week. He is no stranger to TCU basketball, as he provided color commentary for select games during the 1989-90 and 1990-91 seasons.

Denton graduated from TCU in 1985 with a B.S. in broadcast journalism and serves as president of JDI, Inc., a broadcast and marketing consulting firm. He and his wife Linda reside in Southlake, Texas, with their two daughters, Erin, 7, and Meredith, 5.

"The opportunity to expand my role with TCU and ESPN is very exciting," Denton said. "Coach Neil Dougherty and his staff have the program positioned to be nationally prominent, and I'm thrilled to be asked to contribute."

TCU's first exhibition contest is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 5, at 2:30 p.m. CST. The first home and regular-season game is versus Tarleton State on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
