Aug. 24, 2007
FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU head men's basketball coach Neil Dougherty has announced the hiring of Kornelija Kairyte as the program's director of operations.
"I am very excited to have Kornelija join the TCU basketball family," Dougherty said. "She brings so much to the table because of all of her different experiences in and around the game of basketball. She will be a great addition to our staff and we're eager to get her started."
Kairyte has extensive background working in the sport, which includes the past seven years at Interhoop, a company in her native country of Lithuania. In her role, she set up exhibition games with NCAA teams, organized and ran international basketball camps and assisted with daily operations of international basketball affairs.
She also has experience with the National Basketball Association. In 2006, she worked for the NBA Cares "Basketball Without Borders" program in Lithuania. In addition, Kairyte has worked in the Dallas Mavericks' community relations department (2005-06) and the Seattle Supersonics' marketing and promotions department (2002-04).
Kairyte began her career at Liberty University, where she served as graduate assistant coach and director of basketball operations for the women's basketball team from 2000-02. Included in her duties were organizing team travel, overseeing finances, film exchange, recruiting, scouting and scheduling basketball events.
"This is a wonderful chance for me, and I am very excited to be a part of the Horned Frog staff," Kairyte said. "This is a great opportunity that Coach Dougherty has given to me and I look forward to being a part of the future of TCU basketball."
She graduated from Patten University in Oakland, Calif., in 2000 with a degree in organizational management. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in business administration from Liberty. Her brother, Donaldas Kairys, is an assistant coach for the Lithuanian National Basketball Team.
