Frogs fall to Cairns Taipans, 108-93

Cairns, Australia - Cairns forward Ben Knight scored 31 points on 14-of-16 shooting to lead the Taipans to a 108-93 win over TCU Sunday. The Frogs drop to 2-2 thru the first four games of a six-game trip in Australia.
The Taipans went on a 21-9 run to start the game as Knight scored 10 of his 19 first-half points thru the first seven minutes of the contest. Former Indiana State star Jayson Wells scored 24 points, 12 in each half, and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Frogs, which trailed by 29 points to start the fourth, erupted for 40 points in the final quarter to cut the deficit to 15 points. Junior Blount scored 14 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Frogs outscored the Taipans, 40-26. Ronald Hobbs also scored 18 points, nine in each half. James Davis scored 14 and Corey Santee added 13.
While the Frogs struggled from the field, shooting only 37.8 percent from the field, the Taipans shot a blistering 54.2 percent for the game. The Taipans out rebounded the Frogs by 16 boards, 55-39. Bingo Merriex led the Frogs with seven.
Although both teams ended the contest with 27 made free throws, the Taipans shot 20-of-26 in the first half, compared to 7-of-11 for the Frogs. Overall, Cairns knocked down 27-of-42 free throws, while TCU converted 27-of-36 free throws. The free throws total balanced out in the fourth quarter as the Frogs made 13 free throws, while the Taipans did not attempt a single free throw. There were a total of 69 fouls called in the game, 36 against TCU and 33 for the Taipans.
TCU will depart Cairns Monday, August 18 as they travel to Sydney, Australia. The Frogs will return to the court on Tuesday, August 19, when they face the Sydney Kings.
