Mountain West Conference announces schedule for 2008-09 season

The Mountain West Conference released the 2008-09 men's basketball schedule on Monday (Aug. 18) with the TCU men's basketball program opening up league action at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum on January 3rd, 2009, against Colorado State. Colorado State
The new era of Mountain West Conference basketball for the TCU men's basketball program under the direction of first-year head coach Jim Christian will begin on January 3rd, 2009, when the Frogs welcome Colorado State to the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The Frogs will return to Moby Arena on February 7th to square-off against the Rams on their home floor. Last season - the Purple and White took both games from the Rams with a 70-58 victory at Moby Arena followed by a 66-64 triumph at the DMC. The Rams - who are coming off a 7-25 campaign - are under the guidance of second-year head coach Tim Miles and return one of the top scoring threats in the Mountain West Conference in Marcus Walker.
UNLV
The Frogs will have their second straight conference home game on January 10th when the Purple and White welcome UNLV to the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The Frogs will travel to Las Vegas, Nev., for the first time during the 2008-09 campaign to face the Runnin' Rebels at the Thomas & Mack Center on February 10th.
In their last meeting - the Frogs and Runnin' Rebels put together one of the greatest games in Mountain West Conference Tournament history as UNLV prevailed with an 89-88 victory in the quarterfinal match-up. UNLV went on to claim the Mountain West Conference Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament where they advanced to the second round before falling to eventual national champion Kansas.
BYU (January 13, 2009 | Marriott Center | Provo, Utah) (February 14, 2009 | Daniel-Meyer Coliseum | Fort Worth, Texas) The Frogs will take to the air for the first time in Mountain West Conference action as the Purple and White travel to Provo, Utah, for a match-up against defending regular-season champions BYU at the Marriott Center on January 13th. The Frogs and Cougars will square-off in the second rotation of the conference schedule at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum on February 14th. The Frogs and Cougars played a pair of tough match-ups against one another last season as BYU was able to hold off the Purple and White in both match-ups. The Cougars will return Co-Mountain West Conference Player of the Year award winner Lee Cummard to the line-up along with one of the conference's premier shooters in Jonathan Tavernari.
Air Force
Following their contest against the Cougars - the Frogs will travel to USAFA, Colo., for a contest against the Air Force Academy on January 17th at Clune Arena. The Falcons will make the trip to Fort Worth on February 18th to square-off against the Purple and White at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The Falcons are coming off a 16-14 overall record under first-year head coach Tim Reynolds - including a pair of victories over the Frogs. The Air Force Academy ranked in the top-10 among all NCAA Division I programs in scoring defense as the Falcons only allowed 57.2 points per game.
Wyoming
After a pair of contests on the road - the Frogs will return to the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum on January 21st, 2009, for their first match-up of the season against the University of Wyoming. The Frogs will travel to Laramie, Wyo., on February 21st in the second rotation of the conference schedule to face the Cowboys. The Cowboys recorded a 12-18 record during the 2007-08 campaign under first-year head coach Heath Schroyer, but return one of the most dynamic scorers in the Mountain West Conference in Brandon Ewing. Last season - the Frogs and Cowboys recorded a split in the season series as each team captured the triumph on their home floor.
New Mexico
The Frogs will remain at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum for their next conference contest as the Purple and White welcome the University of New Mexico on January 24th. The Frogs will travel to The Pit in Albuquerque, N.M., on February 24th in the second match-up of the season between the two programs. Last season - the Frogs recorded one of their biggest victories of the season against the Lobos on their home floor as Ryan Wall connected on a three-pointer with 1.5 seconds remaining to lift the Frogs to a 74-72 triumph. The Lobos were able to strike revenge on the Frogs in their second match-up as they posted a 64-48 triumph at The Pit.
San Diego State
The Frogs will take to the West Coast on January 27th as the Purple and White travels to Cox Arena for a match-up against San Diego State. On February 28th - the Frogs will welcome San Diego State to the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum for their final home conference game of the season. The Purple and White earned a split with the Aztecs last season as each program captured the conference game on their home floor. San Diego State is coming off a 20-13 overall record as the Aztecs advanced to the NIT where they dropped their first game to the University of Florida.
Utah
In their final rotation of the season - the Frogs will square-off against the University of Utah with the first match-up coming at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum on February 4th. The Runnin' Utes will have their Senior Day on March 7th when they host the Frogs at the Huntsman Center in the final regular-season conference contest of the season. Last season - the Frogs and Runnin' Utes posted a split in their season series with both teams capturing victories on their home floor. Under the direction of first-year head coach Jim Boylan - the Runnin' Utes posted an 18-15 overall record while advancing to the second round of the College Basketball Invitational. The Mountain West Conference schedule will also feature the Frogs on national television in 12 of the 16-game schedule on either The Mtn. Network or CBS College Sports. TCU Athletic Media Relations
