FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU head coach Neil Dougherty announced today that Nile Murry has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Horned Frog men's basketball team. Murry, who must sit out the 2003-04 season in accordance with the NCAA transfer policy, will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in the 2004-05 campaign.

"We are excited to welcome Nile to the TCU basketball family," Dougherty said. "Along with Division I playing experience, he brings outstanding leadership qualities to our team. We are happy that he has decided to return to the state of Texas."

Murry, a 6-4, 205-pound guard, played the previous two seasons for Temple University of the Atlantic 10. With the Owls, Murry appeared in 64 games, making 19 starts over that time. He gained extensive postseason experience, playing in nine National Invitational Tournament (NIT) games over two years.

Last season, Murry played in each of the team's 31 games, averaging 2.9 points in nearly 10 minutes of action per game. He netted a season-high 12 points against South Carolina.

As a true freshman, Murry played in 33 games, making 18 starts, and placed third on the Owls in three-point shooting, making 37.1 percent of his attempts (39-of-105). He ranked ninth in the A-10 in steals, averaging 1.6 per game, and eighth in three-point field goal percentage .

On the year, Murry averaged 5.3 points and 3.0 rebounds in 24.5 minutes per contest. Against Fordham, he posted a career-high 33 points, the second-highest total for a freshman in school history. He earned Big 5 Player of the Week honors for his effort.

Murry, a Houston native, played his high school basketball for Klein Forest, where he was a second-team all-state point guard as a senior.
