TCU Drops Third Straight with 62-54 Setback to Utah

The University of Utah connected on 72.2 percent (13-of-18) in the second half and overcame a five-point intermission deficit to record a 62-54 victory over TCU at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum on Wednesday evening.
With the setback, the Frogs dropped to 13-9 overall and 4-4 in Mountain West Conference action while the Runnin' Utes improved to 15-7 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
The Frogs came out strong in the first half of action against the conference-leading Utes as TCU controlled the scoreboard for the entire 20 minutes of action. TCU collected its biggest lead of seven points in the first half on two occasions with Ronnie Moss (Fort Worth, Texas | Christian Life Academy) giving the Frogs a 14-7 lead at the 14:23 mark.
Kevin Langford (Fort Worth, Texas | University of California) connected on a lay-in with 1:34 remaining before intermission to give the Frogs a 32-25 lead. The Fort Worth standout finished with a game-high 22 points, including a trio of three-pointers and 9-of-11 from the free throw line, to go along with seven rebounds and two assists in 34 minutes of action.
In the second half of action, the Frogs and Utes exchanged baskets with both of TCU's field goal connections coming on three-pointers by Langford. The Utes used a 15-3 run over a six-minute span with a three-pointer by Lawrence Borha giving Utah a 49-41 lead with 10:18 remaining in the game.
The Frogs were able to come within one-point of the lead on a pair of occasions, failed to connect on a field goal over the final 6:17 of the game. After getting their lead cut to one-point at the 6:17 mark, Utah rallied off an 11-4 run to close out the game.
Moss - who started his sixth career game for the Frogs - finished with 14 points on 7-of-14 shooting to go along with two rebounds in 32 minutes of action. Zvonko Buljan (Split, Croatia | Vincennes University) finished with eight points to along with seven rebounds and two steals in 26 minutes of action.
Carlon Brown collected a double-double for the Utes with a 14-point, 12-rebound performance while Luke Nevill and Borha notched 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Frogs will be back in action on Saturday (Feb. 7) when TCU travels to Fort Collins, Colo., for a conference showdown with Colorado State. Game time is slated for 8:00 p.m. Central Time.
