  Northern Colorado Posts 64-53 Triumph over Frogs

FORT WORTH, Texas - Northern Colorado - who entered the game ranked 19th in the Mid-Major Poll - posted a 64-53 victory over TCU on Wednesday evening at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

With the victory, the Bears improved to 12-3 on the season while the Frogs dropped to 6-7 on the 2009-10 campaign.

In a tightly-contested first half of action, the Bears headed into the locker room with a one-point advantage, 33-32, over the Frogs. In the second half of action, Northern Colorado out-scored the Frogs by a 31-21 margin and forced the Frogs to commit 14 second-half turnovers, which resulted in 17 points.

The Bears took an 11-point lead over the Frogs at the 8:03 mark following a three-pointer by Chris Kaba, but the Frogs were able to cut the lead to four points at 53-49 with 4:18 left in the game following a three-pointer by freshman Xavier Roberson (Houston, Texas | Mississippi Elite Christian Academy).

On the next possession, Devon Beitzel connected on his third three-pointer of the game to give Northern Colorado a seven-point advantage at 56-49 with 3:52 left in the game. The Bears out-scored the Frogs by an 8-4 margin over the final three minutes of action and never let TCU get within five points of the lead.

Beitzel finished with a game-high 15 points, including three three-pointers, to go along with four assists, three rebounds and two assists in 35 minutes of action. Will Figures notched 13 points, three assists, three steals and two rebounds in 31 minutes of court time to aid the Bears.

Roberson finished with a career-high 10 points in 19 minutes of action while Kevin Butler (Duncanville, Texas | Duncanville H.S.) added 10 points, seven rebounds, four steals and two assists in 31 minutes of court time to pace the Frogs.

Zvonko Buljan (Split, Croatia | Vincennes University) collected 10 points and six rebounds while Ronnie Moss (Fort Worth, Texas | Christian Life Academy) notched 10 points for the Frogs. Nikola Cerina (Topola Oplenac, Serbia | Nikola Tesla S.S.) finished with a career-high nine rebounds to lead the Frogs.

 

 

The Frogs will be back in action on Saturday when TCU begins the New Year with a home contest against Rice. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. Central Time.
