Frogs Fall At Saint Mary's
Nov. 21, 2006
MORAGA, Calif. (AP) -Omar Samhan scored a career-high 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead St. Mary's to a 74-53 non-conference win over TCU on Tuesday night.
Neiman Owens had a career-high 14 points and team-best seven rebounds for TCU (3-1).
Samhan, a redshirt freshman, did most of his damage in the first half when St. Mary's took control of the game. The 6-foot-11-inch, 265-pound center scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds to help ignite a 25-0 run that buried the Horned Frogs early.
Samhan went 7-for-10 from the floor.
Coming off a six-point loss to Southern Cal, St. Mary's never gave TCU a chance. The Gaels held the Horned Frogs scoreless for 11:31 minutes of the first half and took a commanding 32-7 lead, helped by seven points from Simpson.
Ryan Wall ended the scoring drought for TCU when he had a driving layup with 5:25 left in the first half. But Samhan answered with back-to-back trips down the floor, helping St. Mary's take a 39-13 halftime lead.
The 13 points matched the second-fewest scored in one half in TCU history. The Horned Frogs committed 13 turnovers, shot 5 of 25 from the floor and were just 1-for-8 from 3-point range in the opening 20 minutes.
This was just the second meeting between the two schools. St. Mary's beat the Horned Frogs, 65-57, in Texas last year.
