TCU Basketball Claims 92-80 Win Over Makesure Sport
Nov. 16, 2002 FORT WORTH, Texas -- With an impressive second-half display on both ends of the court, the TCU Horned Frogs were able to pull away from Makesure Sport for a 92-80 exhibition win on Saturday night at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The Horned Frogs outscored Makesure by a 53-33 margin after intermission. The first half was tight, as the lead switched hands 12 times. TCU led Makesure Sport 39-36 with just under two minutes remaining in the first half, but Makesure closed the half with 11 unanswered points to take an eight-point lead, 47-39, lead into intermission. However, TCU charged out of the gates to start the second half, going on an 18-4 run to turn an eight-point deficit into a 57-51 advantage. Corey Santee led the Horned Frogs with 19 points. The sophomore connected on 8-of-15 attempts from the field, and drilled three three-pointers. Bingo Merriex scored 15 points, while Junior Blount added 12 and Chudi Chinweze posted 11. Jamal Brown dragged down a team-high 12 rebounds, as TCU outrebounded the much taller Makesure squad 44-43. Makesure connected on 30-of-65 shots on the evening, good for .462 percentage. Meanwhile, TCU hit 41.6 percent of its attempts (32-for-77). The Horned Frogs made just 1-of-14 three-point shots in the first half, but went 6-for-10 from behind the arc after intermission. TCU opens the regular season with a game against the Sam Houston State Bearkats on Friday, Nov. 22. Tipoff is set for 8:05 p.m. It will be the official Division I head coaching debut for Neil Dougherty.
