Nov. 6, 2007

Fort Worth - If the exhibition game was an indication of what to expect from the TCU men's basketball program during the 2007-08 campaign then the faithful of the Purple and White will have plenty to be excited about.

In their exhibition contest against the LCC Time Team, the Horned Frogs dominated the team from Lithuania from beginning to end en route to securing a 118-54 victory at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum on Tuesday (Nov. 6).

The Horned Frogs quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead within the first three seconds of the contest after TCU senior Brent Hackett (Fort Worth, Texas/Southwest H.S.) took a jump ball and went half the length of the court to secure the lay-in in the paint.

The Fort Worth native enjoyed a tremendous evening in the exhibition contest as he collected a game-high 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including five three-pointers, to go along with four steals, three assists and a pair of rebounds against the LCC Time Team.

Hackett's lay-in helped the Horned Frogs get off to a quick lead, but the combination of Kevin Langford (Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley H.S.) in the low post along with newcomers Mike Scott (Philadelphia, Penn./Franklin Learning Center) and Henry Salter (Gulfport, Miss./Mississippi Gulf Coast College) helped TCU build a 12-0 lead at the 16:13 mark in the first half.

The LCC Time Team was able to cut its deficit to seven points at 20-15 at the 8:40 mark following a jump in the paint by Ibuo Fall. However - the Horned Frogs showcased a tremendous amount of quickness, sharp-shooting and aggressiveness on both sides of the court as TCU was able to close out the first half on a 35-8 run en route to taking a 55-23 lead into intermission.

In the second half of action, the Horned Frogs jumped out to a 42-point advantage after senior Ryan Wall (Coppell, Texas/University of New Mexico) connected on a pair of three-pointers in consecutive possessions to give TCU a 70-28 advantage with 16:08 remaining in the game. Wall finished with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers, in seven minutes of action for the Horned Frogs.

The lead of the Horned Frogs continued to grow as the minutes of the clock ticked closer to zero as a three-pointer by TCU sophomore Martiese Morones (Lexington, Ky./Millersburg Military Institute) gave the Purple and White a 60-point lead at 96-36 with 7:57 remaining in the game.

The Purple and White showed tremendous unselfishness in the contest as 13 of the 14 players that saw action on the court for the Horned Frogs recorded points in the scoring department with 12 of them attaining six or more points in the contest.

While the Horned Frogs enjoyed a tremendous shooting evening, it was their defense that stole the show at the DMC as TCU forced LCC Time Team into 47 turnovers, which resulted in 61 points, while forcing their opponents to shoot 25.0 percent (4-of-16) from behind the three-point line.

The Horned Frogs connected on 53.6 percent (45-of-84) of their attempts, including 41.0 percent (16-of-39) from behind the three-point arc and 75.0 percent (12-of-16) at the free throw line. The Horned Frogs recorded 30 assists in the contest to go along with 30 steals and 32 rebounds, including 14 offensive boards, in the contest.

Salter finished with 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting to go along with four assists and two steals in 20 minutes of action while point guard Jason Ebie (Houston, Texas/Alief Elsik H.S.) added 10 points, eight assists and five steals in 17 minutes of action.

The Horned Frogs will open their 2007-08 campaign at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum on Saturday (Nov. 10) evening against Angelo State University with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
