Final Stats

The TCU men's basketball program snapped a four-game losing streak as the Horned Frogs handed San Diego State a 68-62 setback at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, the Purple and White improved their record to 12-10 and 4-5 in Mountain West Conference action - which equals their most conference triumphs. San Diego State, who entered the contest ranked second in the Mountain West Conference, dropped to 16-7 overall and 6-3 in league action.

San Diego State came out in the first half of action and were able to hold the advantage on the scoreboard for the majority of the frame. The Frogs were able to tie the score on five occasions during the opening 20 minutes, but were never able to take the lead and gain control of the scoreboard.

In the final minute of action, Kevin Langford (Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley H.S.) was able to take a pass from senior Neiman Owens (Channelview, Texas/Channelview H.S.) and connect on a jumper in the paint to give tie the game heading into the locker rooms at 25-25.

Langford notched his 20th consecutive double-digit scoring performance with a 15-point, five-rebound afternoon in 23 minutes of action. The TCU forward has the longest streak in the Mountain West Conference in double-digit scoring contests.

While the Aztecs controlled the first half of action, it was the Purple and White who held the advantage on the scoreboard for the entire final 20 minutes of the game. Following an easy lay-in by forward John Ortiz (Cali, Colombia/Colby C.C.), the Frogs were able to take a 27-25 lead at the 19:44 mark and never gave it up.

The Frogs extended their lead to eight points on two occasions and held a six-point advantage at 61-55 with 1:15 remaining in the game after senior Alvardo Parker (South Caicos, Turks & Caicos/Frank Phillips J.C.) notched a dunk to seal the victory.

Parker finished with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting to go along with seven rebounds and a career-high two steals in 22 minutes of court time.

The Horned Frogs connected on six consecutive free throws in the final 37 seconds of action to capture their third conference victory at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum this season.

Henry Salter (Gulfport, Miss./Mississippi Gulf Coast College) finished with a team-high 18 points to go along with seven rebounds in 31 minutes of action. The TCU senior has notched a double-digit scoring performance in 18 of 21 games in his first season with the Frogs.

Ryan Wall (Coppell, Texas/University of New Mexico) collected his second consecutive double-digit scoring contest as the TCU senior garnered 11 points on 3-of-4 shooting - including 4-of-4 from the charity stripe - to go along with two assists in 11 minutes of action.

The Frogs connected on 48.0 percent (24-of-50) of their field goal attempts to go along with 76.2 percent (16-of-21) from the charity stripe - including 92.3 percent (12-of-13) at the free throw line in the final 20 minutes of action.

The Frogs will be back in action on Wednesday (Feb. 13) when the Purple and White travels to Laramie, Wyo., for a match-up against the University of Wyoming.

Quotes from the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum
TCU Head Coach Neil Dougherty on Alvardo Parker's performance
"When we were coming back from BYU, we were watching the tape, and all of the coaches saw that he looked like he was playing with one leg. We decided that what we were going to try is put him on the bike and try to have him not have to take the grind of practice, and it looked like it helped. Looking at the stat sheet, he's not listed with a block, but I can guarantee you that when I look at the game film, there will be at least five or six shots that he altered or changed because he forced the shooters to not take the shot they intended or wanted."

Dougherty on avoiding giving up the big runs
"We were going to do something if they got on a run, and earlier in the season, I don't mind giving up runs if there's a lesson learned from it. Now I try to do some things to stop those, and they are doing some things themselves like not taking bad shots on top of one another."

Dougherty on the Frogs staying in their roles against the Aztecs
"We did a good job of everything doing their job. What happens is that players in a basketball game feel like they can make a play at any time because everyone in the game has access to almost too much at times. There's a fine line I want the players to remain confident and aggressive because as we found out today, we had to make a lot of plays to win."

San Diego State head men's basketball coach Steve Fisher on the reason TCU won
"They made shots. They got second chance opportunities and took advantage of them. They hurt us on the offensive glass, and after we made a run, they hit back-to-back three-pointers. They made the plays they had to in order to win, and we crept up and had chances, but we didn't quite get it done."

TCU guard Henry Salter on lessons learned from the first game between the two programs "They just dominated us during the entire first half in the last game that we played. We wanted to come out with high intensity and not take anything for granted. We stuck to the game plan that the coaches set for us, and we were able to get the job done today."

TCU Forward Alvardo Parker on the feelings following the game
"This was my first good game since the beginning of the conference, and I was happy to help us win. We really needed this game, and I had some family and friends from back home here at the game so I wanted to play well for them as well."

The Go Frog Five (Notes from the DMC)
- The Frogs recorded double-digit offensive rebounds (13) for the fifth time in the last six Mountain West Conference games.

- For the second straight game, Ryan Wall connected on the same amount of points as minutes played. The TCU senior finished with 14 points in 14 minutes against BYU followed by 11 points in 11 minutes against the Aztecs.

- The Frogs committed 20 turnovers - which was only the second time all season that the Purple and White has finished a game with 20 or more miscues. The last time it happened came against San Diego State in their first meeting of the season.

- In two games against the Horned Frogs, San Diego State has only connected on 26.4 percent (9-of-34) of their three-point field goal attempts.

- Martiese Morones (Lexington, Ky./Millersburg Military Institute) saw plenty of action for the Frogs against the Aztecs as the TCU sophomore played in a career-high 17 minutes where he finished with three points, two assists, one rebound and one steal.
