Anderson capped an outstanding first season at TCU by becoming the first Horned Frog to be named Mountain West Freshman of the Year ... became the fourth Frog all-time to be named top league freshman, joining the likes of Damion Walker (1996 Southwest Conference), Juan Bragg (1995 SWC) and Jeff Jacobs (1994 SWC) ... earned the honor after leading all league freshmen in scoring average (9.8 ppg; No. 19 overall), assists (3.07 apg; No. 8 overall), assist/turnover ratio (1.48; No. 7 overall) and minutes (34.64 mpg; No. 6 overall) during league action ... ranked No. 8 in the MW overall in assist average for the entire season ... appeared in all 33 games while starting each of the last 22 contests, which ranked as the most by a TCU freshman in head coach Jim Christian's tenure and the most by a Frog freshman overall since Femi Ibikunle in 2003-04 (28) ... ranked second on the team in assists and 3-point percentage; third in minutes played and 3-pointers made; fifth in scoring; and sixth in steals ... played at least 31 minutes in all but one of TCU's MW contests ... scored in double figures 11 times while leading the Frogs four times in points and seven times in assists ... recorded two 20-point outings ... led TCU with a career-high 22 points, including 7-of-7 shooting from the charity stripe, during the loss at No. 17 San Diego State (Feb. 4) ... also scored 20 on the road to pace TCU during the road loss at No. 14 UNLV (Jan. 18) in addition to pulling down six rebounds ... dished out a career-best eight assists to go along with three steals during the Feb. 11 home win over Colorado State ... tallied a career-best five steals in the CBI quarterfinal loss at Oregon State (March 19) after totaling setting his previous best of four the game before vs. Milwaukee (March 13) ... hit three 3's five times during TCU's MW schedule.
Kyan Anderson, a Fort Worth native who attended local basketball power North Crowley High School, was a four-star recruit according to MaxPreps and a three-star player according to both Rivals.com and Scout.com ... ranked in the preseason as the nation's No. 29 point guard by ESPN and No. 30 by Scout.com ... the No. 18 senior in the state of Texas according to Rivals.com and the No. 3 point guard ... helped lead Fort Worth's North Crowley High School to a 135-18 overall record during his four years ... averaged 14.1 points and 6.0 assists per game as a senior in 2011 while leading the Panthers to a 31-6 overall record and the Texas 4-5A regional semifinals ... led all Texas Class 5A players in assists and ranked No. 8 in scoring average despite missing time due to injury ... was named the district 3-5A Most Valuable Player as a junior in 2010 as well as first-team all-state and first-team all-region ... also named area Player of the Year by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and all-area by the Dallas Morning News ... was a MaxPreps honorable-mention All-American ... ranked 91st overall in the MaxPreps preseason Top 100 for the class of 2011 ... averaged 21.1 points and 6.2 assists per game in 2010 ... set a school record with 48 points in game against Abilene High School, which topped the previous mark set by current Los Angeles Clipper Willie Warren in 2008 ... averaged 9.4 points, 5.5 assists and 3.3 steals as a sophomore in 2009 on a Panther squad that went 33-6 and advanced to the regional semifinals ... saw significant action as a freshman in 2008 for the North Crowley team that went 38-1 while winning the Texas 5A state championship ... averaged 3.8 points and 1.9 assists per contest ... played AAU ball for the Dallas Heroes ... also drew interest from a group of schools that included Providence, USC, Wake Forest, Virginia, Texas Tech, Houston and SMU.
