FORT WORTH, Texas - Playing in just his first full season of professional baseball, former TCU All-American Jake Arrieta has had a campaign to remember. The latest accolade to come his way is the distinction of the Carolina League's Pitcher of the Year. The right-handed pitcher recently returned from the Beijing Olympics with a bronze medal.

The Carolina League's All-Star game starter, Arrieta finished the season with a 6-5 record in 20 starts. He posted a league-low 2.87 ERA and finished fourth in the league with 120 strikeouts in 113 innings pitched. Opponents hit just .199 off of Arrieta this season. He was twice named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week.

His selection to Team USA came on the heels of earning a spot in the MLB Future's game that was held at Yankee Stadium. He tossed a scoreless sixth inning for the USA squad and picked up one strikeout. In Beijing, Arrieta was 1-0 in his only appearance. He started against China and tossed six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and allowed just two hits.

In other minor league action this week, two former Frogs were selected to play in the prestigious Arizona Fall League. Brad Furnish and Chad Huffman will reunite as teammates with the Peoria Saguaros. Furnish finished his second with Double-A Springfield, an affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, while Huffman spent the entire campaign at Double-A San Antonio, the affiliate of the San Diego Padres.
