May 29, 2008
FORT WORTH, Texas - Junior right-handed pitcher Andrew Cashner has been named third-team All-American by Louisville Slugger. Cashner is the fifth Horned Frog to earn All-American honors under Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle in the last five seasons. Cashner has excelled on the mound for the Frogs this season in the closer role. He leads the team with nine saves to go along with an 8-3 record in 28 appearances. The junior has a team-high 74 strikeouts in 50 innings pitched and has posted a 1.80 ERA. He is limiting opponents to a .120 batting average this season. Named first-team all-conference earlier this season, Cashner also earned a spot on the Mountain West Conference all-tournament squad after helping the Frogs earn their fifth straight tournament crown this past weekend. Cashner is the fifth Horned Frog pitcher in the last six seasons to earn All-American honors. In 2003, Clayton Jerome was named second-team All-American and in 2004, Robbie Findlay was an honorable mention honoree. Lance Broadway was a first-team All-American selection in 2005, while Jake Arrieta earned second-team honors in 2006. The Frogs open play in the NCAA Stillwater Regional Friday afternoon against Wichita State. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
