After opening the Lupton Stadium era with a raucous, more-than-capacity crowd but a disappointing loss to Texas-Arlington, TCU will look to collect its first wins at its new home when Texas-San Antonio visits Fort Worth for a three-game series this weekend. Game times are slated for 3:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
While the Horned Frogs already have a game under their belts, the series will mark the beginning of the 2003 season for UTSA. The Roadrunners finished 25-29 in 2002, including a 13-14 mark in the Southland Conference, good for seventh place. However, they boast a veteran squad which returns eight starting position players and their entire pitching rotation from a year ago.
The leader of the Roadrunners' offense is senior outfielder Philip Gentry. Gentry is UTSA's leading returnee in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.369), home runs (five) and RBI (27).
On the mound, UTSA is led by former Horned Frog Mike Srp. In 2002, the right-handed senior led the Roadrunners with a 3.97 ERA, four complete games, two shutouts and 41 strikeouts.
This weekend's series marks just the third all-time series between the in-state foes. In the previous two series, the visiting team has swept the three-game set, with TCU winning all three in San Antonio in 1993 and UTSA returning the favor in Fort Worth a year later.
