Final Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas - A three-run fourth inning for the White team erased a 1-0 deficit and they held on for the 3-1 victory to claim the World Series title Sunday afternoon at Lupton Stadium. Hunt Woodruff and Bryan Kervin tallied two hits each to lead the White team to victory. Donald Furrow pitched four innings of four-hit ball to earn the victory in the series clincher.

The Purple team struck first as they pushed across an unearned run in the first inning. Ben Carruthers reached on a one-out error and moved to third on an errant throw to first base. Monk Kreder came through with a two-out single to give the Purple squad a 1-0 lead.

Derek VerHagen (0-1) was solid through the first three innings for the White squad, pitching around a couple of base runners to keep the 1-0 advantage. He ran into trouble in the fourth inning as the White squad struck for three runs on three hits and an error.

Austin Adams got the White team rolling with a one-out double. After Keith Conlon walked, Woodruff singled. Adams scored from second thanks to a bad relay throw, tying the game at one. A bunt single off the bat of James Belt gave White the lead and a Chase Kiecke ground out extended the lead to two, 3-1.

Jake Arrieta came on in place of Furrow and pitched two scoreless innings to earn the save. He pitched around a two-out Andrew Walker single in the fifth and a lead-off walk to Steven Trout in the sixth.

Sam Demel twirled two shutout innings in relief of VerHagen for the Purple squad. He gave up two hits and struck out two.

The Frogs will practice as a team for the final time this fall on Monday beginning at 2:15 p.m. The regular season for TCU kicks on Feb. 9, 2007 in Orlando, Fla. with a three-game series against UCF.
