Kyle Winkler posted the best outing of his young career as the TCU freshman tossed a two-hitter over 8.0 innings en route to leading the Horned Frogs to a 13-1 victory over Oregon State on Saturday evening at Lupton Stadium.

The TCU right-hander tossed 5.0 innings of no-hit ball before allowing a single to Joey Wong in the top half of the sixth inning. Winkler improved his record to 7-0 on the season after tossing 8.0 innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out four hitters.

The Frog hitters were equally as dominant as their rookie hurler as TCU collected 17 hits with each starter collecting at least one hit in the contest. Matt Carpenter and Matt Vern each led the Frogs with three hits, three runs batted in and two runs scored on the evening.

Taylor Featherston, Chris Ellington, Jason Coats and Aaron Schultz each added two hits apiece while five Frogs scored at least two runs in the contest.

TCU made its mark on the scoreboard in the top half of the second inning when Vern opened up the frame with a double to left field and was plated two batters later when Chris Ellington connected on his sixth home run of the season following a two-run shot over the left field fence.

The Frogs took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning when Featherston connected on a two-run single then was plated on a Carpenter triple down the right field line. After scoring extending the lead to 4-0 in the fourth, the Frogs picked up two more runs to take the score to 6-0 in the fifth inning, which was highlighted by a RBI-double by Vern.

In the ninth inning, the Frogs plated seven runs to up their lead to 13-1, which was highlighted by a two-run double by Carpenter in addition to a two-run single by Vern. The double was Carpenter¹s 23rd of the season, which set a TCU single-season record.

Oregon State scored its only run of the game in the sixth inning when Wong opened up the frame with a single up the middle then stole second base. The Beavers¹ shortstop would score two batters later following a Jared Norris single to right-centerfield. The Beavers finished with three hits all singles in the game off of the bats of Wong, Norris and Rob Folsom.

Tyler Waldron picked up the loss for the Beavers as the OSU hurler pitched 4.1 innings, allowing six runs five earned on nine hits while striking out four hitters. Waldron dropped his record to 6-4 overall on the 2009 campaign.
