Final Stats

Cincinnati, Ohio - The No. 28 TCU Horned Frogs dominated for their second straight win as they pounded Cincinnati 11-0 in the series opener. Lance Broadway won his 11th game of the season, tying a school record. Two Frogs have accomplished the feat. Former head coach, Lance Brown was the first Frog to win 11 back in 1963, while Frank Johnstone did it in 1972 and 1974. Broadway struck out 11 in seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits. He has not allowed an earned run in 15 consecutive innings. Austin Adams did the damage at the plate, driving in three runs on two hits, while Kyle Dahlberg drove in two more with a two-hit contest.

The Frogs busted the game open in the second inning, taking advantage of a struggling Bearcat pitching staff. Matt McGuirk got the rally started with a one-out double to left field. Cincinnati starter Justin Minges plunked J.J. Estrada and walked Matt Carpenter to load the bases. Adams put the Frogs on top with a double down the left field line, plating McGuirk and Estrada. Dahlberg hit a sacrifice fly that sent Carpenter home, giving TCU the 3-0 lead. A walk to Stuart Musslewhite ended Minges day, bring in Kevin Schrader.

Schrader didn't fare any better as he walked the first two guys he face, including a bases loaded walk to Chad Huffman. Keith Conlon delivered the Frogs third double of the inning rounding out the scoring for the Frogs in the second with the Frogs up 6-0.

After a lead-off double to open the first inning, Broadway struck out the next two batters and got the clean-up hitter Logan Parker to ground out with no harm. Through four innings, Broadway had struck out seven batters, two in each of the first three innings. Following a walk to Brian Szarmach to open the third, he sent down 11 of the next 12 batters he faced, with only a hit-by-pitch to interrupt the streak. He struck out the last four batters he faced in the game.

The Frogs put the game out of reach in the fifth inning as they sent 10 men to the plate, scoring five times. Once again, lack of control by the Bearcat pitching staff led to the big inning. Schrader walked McGuirk to open the inning and plunked Estrada for the second time, ending his day. The Frogs greeted Bryan Wood with three straight singles, scoring twice on RBI singles from Adams and Dahlberg. Musslewhite drew the Frogs second bases-loaded walk to make it 9-0. A Shelby Ford sacrifice fly gave the Frogs a 10-0 lead and a Ryan Pack RBI on a fielder's choice rounded out the Frogs scoring.

Chase Perry pitched the final two innings, allowing three hits and striking out two. He stranded two runners on base in the eighth inning and struck out LaFringe Hayes with the bases loaded to end the game.

With a single in the seventh, Musslewhite extended his hit-streak to 11 games, while Conlon's second inning double extended his season-long hit streak to 10 games.

The Frogs (33-14, 16-6) and the Bearcats (20-24, 7-14) will face off in game two on Saturday at 3:00 (CDT). Brad Furnish will face the Bearcats ace, Tony Maynard.
