TCU Sweeps UTPA With 10-0 Win
April 3, 2013
F0RT WORTH -TCU put a six spot on the board in the third inning and cruised to a 10-0 victory over UT Pan American Wednesday night. Kevin Cron hit his first home run of the season and Paul Hendrix drove in four with three hits.
Stefan Crichton (2-2) threw six shutout innings for the Horned Frogs. He allowed two hits, walked two and struck out five. Trevor Seidenberger surrendered one hit and struck out one in his lone inning of work. Justin Scharf tossed the final two innings. He issued one walk and struck out one.
TCU's pitching staff did a fantastic job limiting the Broncs offensively. No pitcher faced more than four batters in an inning and UT Pan American never had a runner advance past second base.
The Frogs started the scoring early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. A one-out walk to Jantzen Witte got the Frogs rolling. Paul Hendrix doubled to straightaway center field for a run-scoring double.
TCU broke the game open in the third inning, scoring six runs on five hits. Cody Jones worked a 13-pitch walk and Witte singled to put runners on the corners with one out. Boomer White grounded out to drive in the first run of the inning.
With two outs, Hendrix drew a walk to put two on. A balk advanced both runners into scoring position and Derek Odell delivered a two-run single to left for a 4-0 lead. Kevin Cron followed with his first home run of the season to make it a 6-0 game. Dylan Fitzgerald reached on an infield single, stole second and scored on a Keaton Jones base hit to cap the scoring in the inning.
The Frogs added a run in the fourth inning to push the lead to eight. Witte and White worked back-to-back walks and Hendrix lined a single to left for his second RBI of the game.
Two more runs crossed the plate in the bottom of the eight for the Frogs. Keaton Jones reached on a wild pitch and a pair of walks to Cody Jones and Witte loaded the bases. As with his previous two hits, Hendrix's career-high third hit drove in runs. His bases-loaded single to left plated both Keaton Jones and Cody Jones for a 10-0 lead.
TCU improves to 13-16 overall with the sweep of UTPA. The Frogs homestand continues this weekend when they host San Francisco in a three game series. Friday night's series-opener is slated for a 6:30 start and will be aired nationally on Fox College Sports.
