TCU Wins Series, Tops Houston 18-7

Houston, Texas - TCU scored 11 times in the last three innings to break a 7-7 tie as the Frogs topped Houston 18-7 in the series finale at Cougar Field. The Frogs will leave Houston tied for first place in Conference USA with a 5-1 record. Chad Huffman was 5-for-6 in the game with three runs driven in and five runs scored.
The Frogs came out swinging in the first inning, scoring three times to take the early lead. Ramon Moses led the game off with a base knock to right field and following a stolen base, scored on a Huffman base hit. Two more runs scored on RBI's by Bo Cogbill and Chris Neuman.
Houston battled back to take a 6-3 lead in the second inning. The Cougars batted around in the second, plating five runs on five hits and a costly TCU error. Kevin Roberts gave Houston the lead with a two-run double to highlight the inning.
TCU didn't stay down long as they battled back in the third. Huffman delivered his second hit of the game and Ford turned on the first pitch he saw, driving it over the right field fence, pulling the Frogs within one, 6-5.
Chad Underwood found himself in a jam in the fourth inning after the first two batters reached base in the inning. Underwood got out of the jam with a strikeout and a double play ball to Huffman who tagged first base and threw home to get the runner trying to score from third, keeping it a 6-5 deficit.
Huffman and Ford teamed up again in the fifth to put the Frogs back in the lead, 7-6. Huffman led off the inning with a base knock and Ford sent his second home run of the game sailing over the left field fence.
The see-saw battle continued as Houston tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning only to see TCU take the lead back in the seventh inning. The Frogs picked up three runs in the inning on four hits. Huffman doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a Cogbill base hit. The Frogs picked up another run on a double steal as Neuman swiped second and Cogbill came home. Austin Adams drove in Neuman. After a Kyle Dahlberg single, Adams was thrown out at home trying to score, but the Frogs had a 10-7 lead.
TCU put the game out of reach in the ninth as they exploded for eight runs in the inning. Moses and Huffman each connected for home runs in the inning helping to put the game out of reach.
Tim McGough picks up the victory as he pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, allowing only one hit, while striking out one and walking one. Robbie Findlay pitched the final two innings to earn his fifth save of the season.
The Frogs (17-9, 5-1 C-USA) are back in action on Tuesday as they head to Waco for a Tuesday night match-up with the Baylor Bears. Game time for the contest is set for 6 p.m. at Baylor Ballpark.
