ROUND ROCK, Texas - TCU mustered just six hits and left eight men on base in dropping its third-straight game 5-1 to Texas Tech Saturday afternoon at Dell Diamond. The loss was the Horned Frogs' second to the Red Raiders in just over a week, as Tech took last week's season-opener 2-1 in 10 innings at the Astros College Classic in Houston.

Tech got on the scoreboard first as Horned Frog starter Kyle Shoemaker (Edmond, Okla./Santa Fe/Seminole J.C.), the defending Conference USA Pitcher of the Week, struggled through a 24-pitch first inning. After allowing a lead-off double, Shoemaker retired the next two batters before Raider clean-up hitter Nick Blankenship drove in the run with a double of his own to left-center field, giving Tech a 1-0 lead.

Shoemaker ran into trouble again in the third, allowing two runs on two hits as the Raiders jumped out to a 3-0 lead.

TCU (2-4) got on the board in the seventh on an RBI single off the bat of Terry Trofholz (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior/Creighton). Unfortunately for the Frogs, they were unable to plate more runs in the frame, stranding runners on second and third.

Texas Tech (7-4) put the game away in the bottom of the seventh, notching two runs on three hits. Tech's Madison Edwards drove in both runs with a single to right, putting the Raiders ahead 5-1.

Red Raider pitchers Steve Gooch and Steve Rowe stymied the Horned Frog hitters, combining to scatter the six hits. Trofholz was the only Frog to enjoy a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4.

TCU's Will Lewis (Texarkana, Ark./Texarkana/Seminole J.C.) had an interesting, if not painful, day at the plate, reaching base all four times, on a single and being hit by three pitches.

The Horned Frogs will look to stop their losing skid tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the finale of the Lone Star Classic versus Southwest Texas.

GAME NOTES
With the loss, TCU fell to 0-4 this season versus unranked teams, but are 2-0 in match-ups with ranked opponents (wins over No. 9 Texas and No. 16 Baylor last weekend at the Astros College Classic) ... TCU has now dropped five-straight games to Texas Tech ... the last time the Frogs beat the Red Raiders was March 28, 2000 (a 7-5 TCU win in Lubbock) ... the Horned Frogs will have another chance to snap the skid to Tech this coming Tuesday and Wednesday as the Raiders will visit TCU Diamond for the third and fourth contests of the year between the two squads ... TCU holds a 1-4 all-time record at Dell Diamond.
