Feb. 14, 2003
HAMMOND, La. - Thanks to an eight-run third inning, TCU jumped out to an early 9-0 lead and never looked back as the Horned Frogs drilled Southeastern Louisiana 15-3 Friday night at SLU's Alumni Field.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Frogs exploded for nine hits, including strings of five- and four-straight, in the eight-run third to take a 9-0 lead. First baseman Chris Neuman (Fort Worth, Texas/Western Hills) and second baseman Will Lewis (Texarkana, Ark./Texarkana) each homered in the outburst, while third baseman Mike Settle (Fort Worth, Texas/Country Day) and left fielder Chris Meeks (Brownwood, Texas/Brownwood) added run-scoring doubles.
Neuman added his second long ball of the evening in the sixth, a three-run shot which put the Frogs up 12-1. In all, Neuman went 2-for-5 with five RBI in the contest.
Not to be outdone, Settle also drove in five runs, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored.
Also having big days for TCU (5-1) were designated hitter Greg Bratton, who had a career high-tying 3-for-3 day at the plate and right fielder Jake Duncan (Marshall, Texas/Marshall), who went 2-for-4 with three runs.
Senior Kyle Shoemaker (Edmond, Okla./Santa Fe) pitched two innings of two-hit relief to earn his first victory of the season. In his first-career appearance at TCU, right-hander Robbie Findlay (Toronto, Ontario/Michael Power) allowed just one run and two hits in three innings to pick up the save. Southeastern starter Brad Miller allowed nine runs (eight earned) on nine hits in just 2.2 innings in taking the loss.
The two squads will meet again Saturday in the middle game of their three-game series. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at Alumni Field
