Matlock, 36, comes to TCU with an outstanding baseball background. For the past five seasons, he has been the head coach of the Flower Mound Jaguars, a team he started from scratch in 1999. From 2002-04, he led them to three straight playoff appearances and two state appearances. For the last three years, his Jaguars have been ranked among the nation's top 25 teams. In 1998, Matlock was named Coach of the Year by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and the Dallas Morning News. This past season, he led the team to the Class 5A Championship game in which they were defeated by Corpus Christi Moody.
In the summer of 2005, Coach Matlock was named the head coach of the Texas Collegiate League's Denton Outlaws. He led his team to the TCL league title and was named the TCL Coach of the Year for his efforts.
Prior to his time at Flower Mound, Matlock coached at Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth. After two seasons as an assistant coach, Matlock was named head coach in 1995. In 1996 and 1997, he was honored as the district Coach of the Year. The Star-Telegram honored him as Coach of the Year in 1998. He has an overall record of 251-67 as a head coach.
