TCU cross country teams conclude inaugural season at Mountain West Conference Championships
Oct. 29, 2005 FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The TCU men's and women's cross country teams turned in strong efforts Saturday as they wrapped up their inaugural campaigns at the 2005 Mountain West Conference Championships on the Collindale Golf Course in Fort Collins, Colo. TCU senior Kip Kangogo turned in a third-place showing in the men's individual 8,000-meter race to lead the Horned Frogs, while sophomore Cassie Hostick paced the TCU women with a 29th finish in the 6,000-meter race. BYU swept both the men's and women's championships as the men claimed its sixth conference team title in seven years while the women have won seven MWC crowns in a row. Josh Rohatinsky and Heidi Magill captured the individual titles for the BYU Cougars in their respective divisions. The TCU men put its best foot forward as Kangogo led the Horned Frog charge in the 8K race as he covered the course in 24:35.3 to come in third place. For his performance, the native from Kabarnet, Kenya, was the lone Frog named to the MWC All-Conference Team as a first-team selection. Fellow Kenyan Jackson Langat, along with sophomore Matt Manly, each posted their second-best marks in 8K competition this season as Langat finished 32nd with a time of 26:01.3 and Manly followed close behind at 33rd with a 26:02.8 clocking. Sophomores JT Reinert, Cody Cook and Houston Bolin gave their best efforts as well as freshman Ben Rogahn. Reinert came through as the squad's number four runner again with a 27:06.6 mark for 43rd. Cook finished the race in 28:32.6 while Bolin followed behind at 28:57.1 and Rogahn completed the race in 29:29.3. TCU also received strong performances from its women's team despite a tough battle in the 6K race. Hostick's time of 22:29.3 at the line is the second-best clocking of the season for the native from Cedar Park, Texas, in 6K competition. In addition, her 29th-place performance ties for a career second-best. Sophomore Halie Bullin and freshman Alyson Trovato were among the top three runners for the Frogs. Bullin covered the 6K course in 22:45.4 to place 36th while Trovato's time of 23:14.4 was good for 41st. McKale Davis, senior Katrina Zielinski and rookie Ashley Young also represented TCU at the MWC Championships as Davis turned in a 23:37.7 clocking while Zielinksi posted a time of 23:46.5 and Young crossed the line at 24:43.7. 2005 Mountain West Cross Country Championships TCU Men's 8K Results: 140 points (6th/6) TCU Women's 6K Results: 192 points (8th/9)
