Alayne Thompson Named C-USA Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Oct. 15, 2002 For the second time this fall, TCU freshman Alayne Thompson has been named the Conference USA Female Cross Country Athlete of the Week. Thompson finished fourth at the Texas A&M Invitational, running the 6K course in a time of 21:50 to lead the Frogs to a sixth-place finish in the 21-team field. Thompson has now finished in the top-five in each of the four fall events. Earlier this season, Thompson was named the C-USA Cross Country Athlete of the week after winning the Sam Houston State Invitational. "The competition was difficult at Texas A&M," said cross country coach Derek Koonts. "Alayne went up against a couple of older runners from Kenya, and she was able to stay with them the entire race. I think she should be considered one of the top contenders for the Conference USA individual title. "
The Frogs will return to action Saturday, November 2, when they compete in the C-USA Cross Country Championships.
